(NAPSI)-Visiting an amusement park, attraction or waterpark can be a great way to spend your vacation. The International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) offers these useful tips to consider before your next trip: Parks and Attractions • Obey listed age, height, weight and health restrictions. • Observe all posted ride safety rules. Follow all verbal instructions given by ride operators or provided by recorded announcements. Always use safety equipment provided and never attempt to wriggle free of restraints or other safety devices. • Parents with young children should make sure their children can understand safe and appropriate ride behavior. Never force children to ride attractions they don’t want to ride. Parents and children should watch the ride together, so children know what to expect. • If you see any unsafe behavior or condition on a ride, report it to a supervisor or manager immediately. Waterparks • Dress appropriately, including water shoes, a hat and a loose shirt for when you’ve had enough sun. • Apply waterproof sunscreen before leaving home (reapply throughout the day) and drink plenty of fluids (avoiding those heavily sweetened or caffeinated). • Make sure nonswimmers and weak swimmers have life vests. Bring your own if you are unsure of availability and fit. • Children in diapers should wear waterproof swim diapers. Change diapers only in designated changing areas. • Read the signs at every waterpark ride and obey all rules and experience-level guidelines. • Follow the lifeguards’ instructions and signal them if you see someone in trouble. No matter what sort of adventure you and your family enjoy, designating a meeting place is always smart in the instance someone is separated from your party. The buddy system is an excellent way to ensure children are not left alone. “When it comes to safety, parents and parks make a great team,” stated Charlie Bray, CEO and president of IAAPA. “Parents need to be sure their children know the rules and why it’s important to follow them.” To learn more about amusement and waterpark safety, and for information to help you plan your next trip, visit the IAAPA web site at www.ticketforfun.com. No matter what the attraction, following the safety rules can help ensure that a fun time is had by everyone. |
