Vacation Photos Go High-Def

(NAPSI)-If the right vacation picture is worth a thousand words, what’s it worth in HD?

It’s a question armchair photographers will be answering more and more as a wave of high-definition digital cameras hits the road with vacationers.

Like their predecessors, HD cameras come with such user-friendly features as red-eye reduction, auto playback and video capabilities. Unlike their predecessors, though, they’re specifically designed to allow you to view your photos and videos in true high-def on an HDTV.

Choosing Cameras

About 131 million digital cameras were shipped worldwide last year, according to research firm IDC, and the newest HD models are already among the hottest this year. Here’s a look at some of the best:

• Vivid Videos--Aspiring filmmakers can shoot the family vacation in high-def with Samsung’s compact SC-HMX20C. The camcorder captures 90 minutes of action using 8GB of internal memory--meaning no memory card or tape is required. A really cool super slow-motion mode can also add a unique touch to your videos. Plus, an easy-to-use HDMI docking station lets you watch videos on your HDTV when you get home--while also recharging the camcorder’s battery.

• Two In One--Vacationers who don’t want to pack both a camcorder and a digital camera need to check out Samsung’s NV24HD. This camera offers the best of both worlds--it can capture 10.1 megapixel pics and record high-def video. It’s also got an ultra-wide 24mm lens for group and landscape shots and a 3.6x optical zoom for extreme close-ups. An optional HDMI docking station is also available.

Postcard-Perfect Pics

Of course, even if you’re using the latest high-def camera, a few photo basics can help improve your vacation shots.

Remember to choose backgrounds wisely, as too much action distracts the eye from the photo’s focus. Also, use your flash for all outdoor shots, even during the day, since doing so helps keep shadows off your subject’s face.

And finally, familiarize yourself with your camera before taking your trip. It’s the best way to take advantage of all the cool features it offers--and to capture the best vacation shots.
