Everyday Fur Warms Fashion Forecast

(NAPSI)-Fur is used in new--and more versatile--ways these days as more and more women make it part of their wardrobes.

So what fur will be hot this season? Look for luxurious coats and scarves to remain popular but also for fur vests, skirts, dresses and sweaters to make the fashion scene.

Women will also answer the call of the wild this year by opting for wild furs, such as muskrat, beaver, raccoon and coyote. Here's a look at some top designs:

Twenty-Four-Hour Luxe

New styles go from a day at the office to a glamorous night out when designer Badgley Mischka combines elegantly embroidered evening wear with luxe day wear. The furs include a selection of mink coats as well as some smaller pieces such as natural, long-haired beaver vests and bleached raccoon-belted collarless vests.

Retro Chic

Sixties retro is back in a big way as designers including Michael Kors unveil polished collections of elegant sheath dresses, tweedy jackets and glen plaid skirts. A longtime lover of furs, Kors also released a line of beautiful stoles, dresses and scarves in a variety of colors and he's using furs such as red fox as a trimming highlight.

Naturally Luxurious

Designers such as Carolina Herrera have found new ways to incorporate natural wild furs into their collections. Watch for a sheared and bleached muskrat bolero, long-haired beaver sleeves on a beige windowpane checked suit or a natural long-haired beaver coat with deep cuffs. There's even a stunning long-haired beaver bolero with a brown knit border.

Choosing Fur

There are ways to tell you're choosing a quality fur. For instance, you can check for a NAFA label on garments before you buy. NAFA is an acronym for the North American Fur Association, the marketing company that represents fine American mink and other furs native to North America. Fewer than 5 percent of fur garments worldwide bear the coveted label.

Here are a few other buying tips to keep in mind:

• Furs today can be light enough for spring and fall wear.

• Furs are easy to clean but should be done professionally. Follow instructions provided.

• If you don't feel comfortable with a fur salesperson, don't be shy. Look for another retailer.
