Futuristic Innovations Are Born On New Discovery Channel Series

(NAPSI)-We've all been there at one point or another--stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic, horns honking, palms sweating, blood pressure rising. With the increasing amount of time Americans spend in their cars each day, road rage is a phenomenon we've all been affected by.

However, new technology that monitors a driver's agitation level while he or she is behind the wheel may make road rage--and those who suffer from it--a thing of the past. The mind-controlled car, which restricts a car's performance when its driver becomes upset, is just one of several modern innovations featured on Discovery Channel's new series, "Prototype This."

"Prototype This" brings viewers straight to the drawing board and through the design process to experience firsthand as inventions come to life. From the producers of Discovery Channel's hit series "MythBusters," "Prototype This" features a four-person team of experts, specializing in engineering, electronics, special effects and fabricating, who work each week to develop one-of-a-kind prototypes of tomorrow for people to experience today.

"'Prototype This' exemplifies ingenuity under pressure, combining creative ideas with modern science and state-of-the-art technology," says John Ford, president and general manager of Discovery Channel.

The show's four hosts--Dr. Zoz Brooks, Joe Grand, Dr. Mike North and Terry Sandin--put their brains together to come up with products that tackle modern inconveniences and problems we all confront.

In addition to the mind-controlled car, other prototypes featured on "Prototype This" include a truck that can rise up and drive over traffic; a high-tech alarm clock that provides not only a wake-up chime but an automated shower, valet service and mechanized butler to send you out the door; an inflatable car; a six-legged robot that can safely carry a human through any type of terrain; and a waterslide simulator that can provide an amusement park--like thrill ride from the comfort of a backyard.

"Prototype This" airs on Discovery Channel Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT. For more information, visit www.discovery.com.
