HOLIDAY HINTS

Snapping Better Holiday Photos

(NAPSI)-If you're like most people, chances are you're not getting everything you could out of all the high-tech features your digital camera has to offer.

In fact, maybe you wish someone would just embed easy-to-follow instructions in the darn thing and be done with it.

Turns out someone has--along with doing much more to ensure your shots turn out right. In addition to offering 13.6 megapixels and a litany of advanced features designed to help you take better images, Samsung's new SL310W comes with a built-in "photo help guide" to explain how to use them. Here's a rundown of how the right bells and whistles can transform holiday photos:

Face Time

You want pictures of people's faces, not the holiday decorations behind them. The camera's Face Detection technology can help. It automatically focuses in on as many as nine faces and adjusts the camera to ensure better composition and image quality.

Eyes Wide Open

So you think you've snapped the perfect family portrait only to discover that your uncle blinked when the flash went off. The solution: Blink Detection. It triggers the camera to take three consecutive photos to help ensure you get a shot in which no one's eyes are closed. Paired with Smile Shot--which allows shots to be taken only if the camera detects a smile on the subject's face--the feature can serve as a valuable fail-safe.

Group Shots

It's this simple: Large groups need wide lenses to prevent people from getting cut from the shot. That's why the camera was designed with a high-quality, 28mm wide-angle lens instead of the 35mm wide-angle lens found on most models.

Bye-Bye Blur

Many a family photo has been lost to a photographer's shaky hand, but that's no longer an issue with the Samsung SL310W. A feature called Dual Image Stabilization, which combines the benefits of optical and digital stabilization technologies, helps eliminate the blur associated with vibrations or other sudden movements that occur when you press the shutter button.

Get In The Picture

There's probably something missing from the family photos you take: you. Use the camera's Motion Detection Timer function to change that. It lets the photographer set the camera on a tripod or table and then program it to take a shot after it's detected that all motion has stopped-giving the shooter adequate time to get into the picture and smile for the camera.
