That’s whyit’s so important to inform our teens by keeping them close to world news and public affairs. “The reality is that teens have been pulled deep into a culture that places a disproportionate importance on celebrity and not enough on public affairs and civic involvement. Too many are making it through the educational system without a clear understanding of how they fit into the fabric of a true global community. Our teens may be physically distanced from someof the pressing global issues, but there is great educational and competitive benefit to keeping them clued-in and engaged,” said Judy Harris, president and CEO of Channel One, a news and public affairs content provider reaching almost eight million teens a day in nearly 12,000 middle schools and high schools across the country. The channel recently aired a special, hard-hitting report on Israel’s disengagement from the Gaza Strip. The three-part series featured comment from Israeli and Palestinian teens to give American teens a candid view of what daily life has been like during the dispute. “Like the humanitarian crisis in Sudan,the disengagement from Gaza is one of those historical events that needs to be acknowledged and discussed in a way that inspires conversation and thought among our teens,” said Harris. “This series provides insight around the facts leading to the event while exposing teens to a dual perspective that shows the impact on Israeli and Palestinian students.
