The following Fire Safety Tips should be reviewed and shared with the entire family: 1. Keep the emergency number for the fire and police stations near each phone in your home. Also, make sure that kids—or babysitters—can clearly repeat your exact address and phone number whencalling in an emergency. 2. Make sure your home has smoke detectors. Test them through monthly fire drills, and change the batteries twice a year. 3. Don’t let your children play with matches or lighters—ever. 4. Create a family escape plan and nearby meeting place in case of fire. And remember the motto: Don’t Hide—Get Outside! 5. If you do see smokeorfire, Get Low and Go, meeting at your designated family meeting place. 6. When cooking in the kitchen, don’t wear loose clothing. Make sure children follow that rule and keep them away from open flames. 7. If a piece of clothing does catch onfire: a. Stop. Don’t run. b. Drop.
