Do You KnowA Forestry Hero? (NAPSA)—Overthe past year, Americans have witnessed tremendous acts of heroism. With interest growing in those who protect our nation’s forests, many are thinking about who they know who’s gone beyond the call of duty or has made a special contribution within the forestry industry. He or she may be a logger, firefighter, forest or park ranger, arborist or any other individual employed in the eare and maintenance of our nation’s forests. Six years ago the Stihl Forestry Heroism Award wascreated, giving special recognition to one extraordinary individual who works with, in, or devotes a significant portion of his or her time to the forestry industry. A panel of independent experts select the winner based on the impact of the candidate’s action for the good of society, the impact of the candidate’s action for the good of the forestry industry, and how memorable the candidate’s action was. The recipient will receive an award plaque and a monetary gift. The chain saw and powertool manufacturer will make a financial donation to a forestry school in the designated recipient’s state of residence. Last year’s National Forestry HEROES WANTED—If you know an extraordinary individual who worksin the forestry industry, consider them for the Stihl National Forestry Heroism Award. Hero was 22-year-old Rebecca Welch,a firefighter in Washington State who saved two campers during a raging wildfire by sharing her one-person fire shelter. The youngest recipient and the first woman to be honored with this award, Welch accepted the award last May at the Richmond 2002.
