(NAPS)—Duringits 17th annual Mardi Gras! celebration, visitors to Galveston will meet a new breed of extraterrestrials. Participants will be donning purple, green and gold beads, as Galveston Island salutes “Space and Beyond,” the theme of this year’s celebration. a.) ers Galveston Carnival promises to be extra fun for revelers dressedas extraterrestrials. Designated as one of the Top 100 Events in North America by the American Bus Association, Galveston is expected to draw half a million revelers to the Island over Carnival season. “Space & Beyond” will be reflected in every aspectof the cel- ebration, which includes more than fifty events, beginning on “King’s Day,” Saturday, Jan. 6, and continuing through “Fat Tuesday”, Feb. 27, 2001. Entertainment headliners include Kool & the Gang, George Clinton & Parliament/Funkadelic, Los Lobos, Bamboleo, Rev. Horton Heat, Chris Duarte, Vallejo, and a Tribute to the Blues Brothers. A total of 36 bands will entertain revelers over Feb. 16 and 17 and Feb. 23 and 24. Advancetickets will be available at Ticketmaster locations. Friday tickets are $5 in advance and $10 at the gate; Saturday tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the gate. The Entertainment District is sponsored by Budweiser.
