Rare Leonardo da Vinci Exhibition In The U.S. (NAPSA)—This winter, art enthusiasts across the countrywill have a chanceto view thelargest display of drawings by Renaissance master Leonardo da Vinci ever assembled in America. Therich and varied selections of nearly 120 drawings by Leonardo are featured in a landmark exhibition premier- ing at New York’s Metropolitan Museum ofArt. “Leonardo da Vinci, Master Draftsman” is sponsored by Morgan Stanley and will be on view at the Met from January 22 through March 30, 2003. The exhibition may also be previewedonline at www.metmuseum.org. Featuring rare studies and drawings for many of Leonardo’s major projects, the exhibition chronicles his staggering contribution as an artist, scientist, theorist, author, and teacher whose discov- eries continue to inspire and inform the contemporary world. “Leonardo da Vinci, Master Draftsman”in- cludes masterpieces that provide unique insight into Leonardo’s creative process, such as: The Vatican Museum’s Saint Jerome Praying in the Wilderness, an unfinished painting that reveals much of the original underdrawing andtheartist’s actual fingerprints. Large-scale studies for the unfinished mural of the Battle of Anghiari, the lost Leda and the Swan and the presentation drawing of Neptune with Seahorses. A group of studies for the famous painting Virgin and Child with Saint Anne, which offers an opportunity to redefine the chronology and evolution of one of the artist’s great late projects. Arecently discovered series of sketches created in preparation for a sculpture of Hercules that was likely meant to compete with Michelangelo’s David, but never completed. “For 500 years, Leonardo da Vinci Head of the Virgin in Three- Quarter View Facing to the Right (detail) is part of the largest exhibition of Leonardo da Vinci draw- ings ever presented in America, at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. has embodied the essence of innovation and creativity,” says Don Callahan, Head of Marketing and Business Development, Institutional Securities Group, Morgan Stanley. “In presenting this exhibition, the Metropolitan Museum ofArt is bringing to light the extraordinary genius and vision of Leonardo, highlighting his astonishing contribution to the fields of art and science—contributions which have tremendous impact and relevance even today.
