ARAMRA America’s First Cathedral (NAPSA)—One of Baltimore’s newest attractions happens to be one of its oldest—the Baltimore Basilica, America’s first cathedral. The historic cathedral, built from 1806 to 1821, was the first major religious building constructed in America after the adoption of the Constitution. The Baltimore Basilica, built 200 years ago, is considered one of America’s greatest buildings. Designed by Benjamin Henry Latrobe, who served as the Architect of the Capitol under President Thomas Jefferson, the Basilica is one of the most significant archi- tectural landmarks remaining from the early 19th century United States. After being restored to its original design, the Baltimore Basilica will reopen in November 2006.
