Community Gardens The Scotts Give Back to Grow Awards honors people who have improved their communities through gardening. (NAPSA)—Can beautiful gardens help to restore community pride, feed the hungry and even reduce crime? A growing numberof community gardeners are proving it’s possible. Based on thebelief that volunteer gardenershelp create healthy communities, The Scotts Com- pany has kicked off its fourth annual Scotts Give Back to Grow Awards. This national awardsprogram recognizes those who take pride in giving back to their communities through gardening. Prizes are awarded in four distinct categories: Classroom Gardener of the Year (honoring teachers) Urban Greenup Gardener of the Year (addressing inner-city needs) Community Beautification Gardener of the Year (promoting environmental stewardship) Good Neighbor Gardener of the Year (honoring Plant A Row for the Hungryparticipants) “The competition honors local heroes who have reached out to their communities through gardening,” said Jim Hagedorn, president and CEO of The Scotts Company. “The awards give them a national platform to share their success stories about how gardens can make communities better, safer places to live.” Anyone may nominate a gardener who has excelled in these categories. First place winners in each category will receive $5,000 and two finalists in each category will receive $2,500. Nominations will be accepted through December 5, 2003.
