Searching For Science Fiction Writers (NAPSA)—A unique contest could help aspiring writers and illustrators turn an important page in their careers. It gives authors and artists the chance to enter their own sciencefiction stories and drawings for a chance to be published. A high percentage of past winners have gone on to successful writing careers and several have become New York Times bestselling authors. Winners have also gone on to publish over 300 novels and 3,000 short stories. Considering that just three out of every 10,000 manuscripts submitted in the United States each year get published, the contest may be just the boost a talented author needs. Called L. Ron Hubbard’s Writers and Illustrators of the Future Contest, the initiative is now in its 23rd year. This year’s selected authors and illustrators are published in a book called “Writers of the Future, Volume 22.” Every quarter of a year, three writers and three illustrators are selected by a panel of leading authors and artists of science fiction and fantasy. Winners then take part in a weeklong, intensive mentoring workshop taught by contest judges. Past mentors have included such sci-fi greats as authors Anne McCaffrey, Orson Scott Card, Algis Budrys, Robert J. Sawyer, Tim Powers, Kevin J. Anderson and K.D.
