Beautify America (NAPS)}—Howextremecan spring cleaning get? You can find out by join- ing the millions of volunteers who will pick up, plant and painttheir cornerofthe world in the Great American Cleanup™ 2001. Volunteers plant flowers in a park during Keep America Beautiful’s Great American Cleanup”. Led by Keep America Beautiful, Inc., the Great American Cleanup™ is the nation’s largest grassroots beautification, litter prevention and community improvement program held annually from mid-March through May. This year’s theme, the “Extreme Clean Challenge,” will feature such uniqueeventsas cleaning up Lake Mead, Nevada, onjet skis, scuba diving cleanupsof the oceanfloor in Florida, beautifying Washington, DC, on bicycles and inline skates, power-washinghistoric buildings with firehoses in Alliance, Nebraska, and the nation’s largest clothingcol- lection drive. Volunteers will also take part in less “extreme” events including tree planting, recycling drives, painting over graffiti and building new playgrounds.
