Helping Heroes Heal (NAPSA)—Americans across the country have helped soldiers who are wounded, injured orill feel a bit closer to home. Each year, thousands of U.S. military people need medical support. While the need for care is often a cause of great stress, so too is the travel that the care can sometimes require. Indeed, members of the mili- tary and their families are sta- tioned worldwide and must often travel great distances for special- ized medical treatments. To help make them feel more at home, wherever they need to go, Americans have worked with or donated to groups such as the Fisher House Foundation. The organization donates “com- fort homes,” which are built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. These homes enable family members to stay close to their hospitalized loved ones. There is at least one such house at every major military medical center to assist families in need and to ensure that they are provided with the comforts of home in a supportive environment. The Web site also has information on dates the donations will be accepted. The store is accepting donations as a part of an ongoing part- nership with the foundation. It’s also helping the foundation furnish its “homes away from home” A unique program helps injured soldiers enjoy some of the comforts of home. with the latest technology to help connect families with loved ones during hospital stays. The store’s vendor partners, including Samsung, Toshiba, Gateway and LG, are donating flat-screen televisions, laptop computers and appliances to the campaign. “Without computers, Internet access and even televisions, service members and their families can feel isolated and forgotten during an extremely stressful time,” said Fisher House Foundation President David A. Coker. “That’s why this partnership is so important.” The store’s employees also have hands-on volunteer involvement, having helped collect money for the foundation at this year’s Indy 500 and by installing some of the newly donated computers and appliances at a foundation center.
