(.)) Good News Dept. Bake Sales Make A Big Difference (NAPSA)—No child should have to grow up hungry—especially in the world’s wealthiest country—yet 12.4 million American children remainatrisk. The best wayto help these children get the help they need may be a tried-and-true method of fundraising—annual bake sale events—organized on a national level. To raise money to fight hunger in communities across the country, the nonprofit organization Share Our Strength will hold its annual event, the Great Ameri- can Bake Sale campaign. So far, over 1.3 million people have taken part in the bake sale event, raising nearly $5 million that is used to increase access to programs providing food to children and their families; strengthen community resources that connect children to healthy food; and help families learn how to get the most from limited resources. Sponsored by Domino Sugar and C&H Sugar, the campaign raises funds that support summer and after-school feeding programs for low-income children. Without school lunch programs, manychildren do not have lunch options during the summer. Since it began in 1984, Share Our Strength has raised more than $245 million and supported more than 1,000 groups, working to end hunger. It’s easy to do your share. Organizing a bake sale is easier than you might imagine andcan befun. “Everyone in your community and workplace can get involved by baking their Semi-Homemade recipes,” said Sandra Lee, campaign spokesperson and star of the Food Network’s “Semi-Homemade Cooking with Sandra Lee.” Even a small contribution can help makea difference. For example, $50 can help provide 48 preschool children lunch for a day, while $100 can help provide 25 bags of age-appropriate, nutritious foods for toddlers whose parents rely on food banks.
