Sgma Nu Fraternty s usng ts emphass on buldng leadershp to change the way t recruts new members by challengng prospects to becomeleaders. For the thrd consecutve year, the Sgma Nu fraternty at the Unversty of Oklahoma encouraged men to jon wth the slogan “What Can You Become?” The challenge was supported by the fraternty’s commtment to personal development through an ethcal leadershp development program called LEAD. LEAD, an acronym for Leadershp, Ethes, Achevement and Development, s a mult-phase member development program. It wasdesgned to buld ethcal leaders who have the desre and know-how to make a postve mpact n ther communty, on ther campus and n ther chapter. The program s desgned to: * Buld self-confdence and character; * Develop leadershp and crteal thnkngsklls; * Help members reflect on ethcal ssues; * Improve communcaton and problem-solvng sklls; * Help members learn to work n teams; and * Help members become nvolved n extracurrcularactvtes. Each phase of the program s based on an nteractve currculum that ncludes workshops and exercses to provde contnuous Sgma Nu's ‘Gap EEND ER PROGRAM ot or SHIP ETHICS AcHIEVEMENT * DEVE A leadershp tranng program s helpng fraternty members develop communcaton sklls and character. educaton. Actvtes such as communty servce projects, peer and professonal mentorng programs and team-buldng sessons unte members whle teachng valuable sklls. Sad John Hough, member of Sgma Nu chapter at the Unversty of Oklahoma, “Our leadershp learnng gave us a desre to make new goals; the LEAD Program gave us the tools to reach those goals.” Accordng to Susan Komves, Drector of the College Student Personnel Program at the Unversty of Maryland, co-author of Explorng Leadershp, and member of the LEAD currculum advsory board, “By helpng the men ntentonally explore ther own values, prncples, and character, they are buldng better leaders for our world.” Headquartered n Lexngton, Va., Sgma Nu Fraternty was founded n 1869 at Vrgna Mltary Insttute n Lexngton. The Fraternty has almost 200 chapters and colones on campuses throughout the Unted States and Canada.
