Power Plant Ruling May Mean CleanerAir (NAPSA)—Revising a little known powerplant regulation has the potential to improve the coun- try’s energy efficiency. The U.S. Environmental Pro- tection Agency has revised the New Source Review section of the Clean Air Act. During the past several years, however, there has been confusion over what was or was not a major modification. Recently, the EPA clarified this ruling. As a result, powerplants are expected to make their plants more energy efficient. According to the experts at the Edison Electric Institute, this will mean the plants can generate moreelectricity using less fuel. This can help power plants to reduce their emissions even more than the roughly 40 percent reductions of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides that have been achieved since 1980.
