Nuclear Energy Could Power Your New Car (NAPSA)—Researchersare looking at several different options to reduce air emissions from motor vehicles. One solution to this problem includes nuclear energy. Nuclear energy produces nearly zero emissions andis sustainable. The technological options vary from using the electricity produced from nuclear energy to power a plug-in vehicle, to using the heat and steam nuclear energy creates to split hydrogen from H20 (water) to power a hydrogen vehicle. Both options and many more using renewables are on thetable. Cars, minivans, pickups and SUVs account for 60 percent of the transportation oil consumed. According to the Department of Energy, America’s transportation system is over 95 percent depen- dent on petroleum and more than half of the supply is imported. A turn away from petroleum could potentially transform the U.S. personal transportation system to one that uses sustainable energy to reduce carbon emissions.
