Delivering American Food—AndSpirit (NAPSA)—A new kind of food chain is helping feed thousandsof people in Afghanistan—and fostering improved U.S. relations in the war-torn region. The chain is a cooperative pro- gram linking American farmers, charity and business together in a massive food-relief effort. The initiative will help feed up to 10,000 Afghan widowsand children over the coming months. The program delivers about 100 pounds of flour at a time as well as rations of cooking oil, lentils and iodized salt to starving families. The wheat originates in North Dakota, where it is donated by the North Dakota Farmers Union. From there it is shipped to Afghanistan. Once in Afghanistan, the inter- nationalrelief organization CARE delivers the wheat to Kabul and distributes it. The company Deutsche Post World Net coordinates the operation with its logistics Business Unit, Danzas.
