D For Parents Helping Parents Parent (NAPSA)—Raising a child can be anything but child’s play— especially when you are a single parent. Fortunately, groups exist that can help single moms and dads deal with the ins and outs of raising a child alone. Groupsare available that give social support and parental advice to single parents. The group Parents Without Partners (PWP), for example, says it operates with the goal of providing “single parents and their children the opportunity to more easily enhance personal growth, self-confidence and sensitivity toward others.” The group offers an environment that can foster support, friendship and the exchange of parenting techniques, and even has the slogan “where newfriendships begin.” Founded in 1957, the organization’s first meeting drew 25 single parents to a church basement in New York City. Today, PWP is the largest international, nonprofit membership organization devoted to the “welfare and interests of single parents and children, worldwide.” For more information, visit www.parentswithoutpartners.org.
