(NAPSA)—Blindness—Are you at risk? You may be and not even know it. The two leading causes of blindness in the United States are diabetic eye disease and glaucoma. There are often no symptoms in the early stages of these diseases. Vision loss may be gradual, and you maynotdetectit. LIONS EYE HEALTH PROGRAM LIONS CONQUERING BLINDNESS @ It is important that you take precautions that may lead to early detection and treatment. You are most at risk for diabetic eye disease if you have diabetes or a family history of diabetes. You are at risk for glaucoma if you are African-American over the age of 40, over the age of 60, have diabetes or have a family history of glaucoma. If you are part of an at-risk population, the Lions Program (LEHP) encourages you to have a regular dilated pupil eye examination once a year for diabetic eye disease and every two years for glaucoma. Funded by a SightFirst grant from Lions Clubs International Foundation, LEHP is an educational outreach program that enables Lions clubs to have a major impact in their communi- ties by creating awareness of preventable blindness.
